Amnesty says India’s arms exports to Israel continue despite Gaza complicity risks

Date:

The rights group urges New Delhi to halt military exports to Israel, citing international legal obligations, while India has not announced any change to its defence policy.

NEW DELHI, India — WEB DESK: Amnesty International has called on India to suspend military exports to Israel, warning that continued arms transfers could expose the country to allegations of complicity in violations of international law linked to the conflict in Gaza.

The rights organisation said India has continued supplying military-related equipment to Israel despite growing international scrutiny over the war in Gaza and repeated calls from human rights groups for an arms embargo.

Amnesty raises legal concerns

According to Amnesty, governments have an obligation under international law to ensure that arms exports are not used in ways that could contribute to serious violations of humanitarian law.

The organisation argued that India’s continued defence exports to Israel could carry legal and reputational risks if the weapons or components are used in military operations in Gaza.

India has not changed its defence policy

India has not announced any suspension of defence exports to Israel and continues to maintain close strategic and defence ties with the country.

Israel has long been one of India’s leading defence partners, with cooperation spanning missile systems, drones, surveillance equipment and air defence technology.

International debate continues

The issue of arms transfers to Israel has become the subject of growing international legal and political debate.

While several human rights organisations have called for restrictions on military exports, countries supplying defence equipment have adopted differing policies based on their legal assessments and national security interests. The allegations and legal arguments remain the subject of international debate and ongoing proceedings; no international court has issued a final ruling determining that genocide has occurred in Gaza.
