AI Summit in India Marred by Protests, Questions Modi’s Policies

Date:

New Delhi, India – Web Desk: The AI Summit in India has become a source of controversy, drawing widespread criticism over mismanagement and disputes that have challenged the government’s narrative of technological progress and global leadership.

The summit faced international embarrassment after the cancellation of Bill Gates’ address, false claims about a Chinese robot being an Indian innovation, and protests by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC). During the event, IYC activists removed their shirts in a dramatic demonstration, chanting anti-government slogans and criticizing alleged trade deals with the United States that they say undermine national interests.

IYC President Ade Bhanu stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is compromising national priorities, and the youth unrest reflects concerns over unemployment, economic uncertainty, and unfair benefits favoring the US at the expense of Indian farmers and citizens. He accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests like Adani and external influences, potentially linked to global controversies, over domestic welfare.

Experts say the protests during the summit signal a serious challenge to Modi’s policies, rather than mere political dissent. They highlight the gap between India’s global technology ambitions and the domestic perception of mismanagement and economic injustice.
