ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, cybercrime prevention, police training and institutional development following high-level discussions between officials from both countries in Islamabad.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali on Saturday, November 7.

Both sides also agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in combating cybercrime. The Sudanese interior minister expressed interest in benefiting from Pakistan’s experience and expertise in tackling cyber-related offences.

During the discussions, Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to support Sudan’s peace and reconstruction efforts. He also highlighted the role of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in supporting Sudan’s civil registration system.

Naqvi said NADRA’s cooperation had helped facilitate the issuance of 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates in Sudan.

He assured the visiting delegation that Pakistan would continue supporting civil registration initiatives and institutional development in the country.

The meeting also addressed visa-related difficulties faced by Sudanese women married to Pakistani nationals and living in Pakistan. Naqvi directed the relevant authorities to resolve these issues promptly.

Pakistan further offered professional training opportunities for Sudanese police officers as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement capabilities and institutional cooperation.

The Pakistani interior minister also expressed willingness to facilitate Sudanese citizens seeking medical treatment in Pakistan, offering support in accessing healthcare services.

The Sudanese interior minister appreciated Pakistan’s continued assistance and described the country as an important partner. He expressed Sudan’s interest in expanding cooperation across different sectors.

Senior officials from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, NADRA, Federal Investigation Agency, Anti-Narcotics Force, Islamabad Police and other relevant institutions attended the meeting.

The proposed cybercrime agreement and discussions on security, police training and civil registration mark further engagement between Islamabad and Khartoum as both countries seek to expand their bilateral relationship.
