4.5-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Khuzdar, No Casualties Reported
KHUZDAR, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A 4.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Khuzdar district and surrounding areas in Balochistan on Monday, causing residents to rush out of homes and businesses, according to local reports.
The Seismic Monitoring Centre recorded the earthquake at a depth of 30 kilometres, while its epicentre was located approximately 45 kilometres east of Khuzdar. Tremors were felt across Khuzdar city as well as nearby villages and surrounding areas.
Residents reported feeling sudden shaking, prompting many people to leave buildings and gather in open spaces as a precaution. Some buildings experienced light shaking, according to the Express Urdu report.
Initial assessments indicated no casualties or major property damage. Rescue officials separately said they had received no reports of loss of life following the earthquake.
District administration and police teams began surveying affected areas after the tremors, while rescue personnel continued to monitor the situation. Authorities said no serious incident had been reported in the immediate aftermath.
The earthquake’s key measurements were also reported consistently by several Pakistani news outlets. Daily Times, Jang and Dunya reported a magnitude of 4.5, a depth of 30km and an epicentre 45km east of Khuzdar.
Khuzdar lies in Balochistan, a province that has experienced significant seismic activity in the past. Authorities routinely advise residents to move away from potentially unstable structures during strong tremors and follow official emergency guidance after an earthquake.
As of the latest reports reviewed, no fatalities or significant structural damage had been confirmed, but local authorities were continuing assessments in Khuzdar and nearby communities.
