RAWALPINDI – WebDesk: US drone company Powerus has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Army that includes an initial order related to unmanned aerial systems, the company’s co-founder Brett Velicovich told Reuters.
The company has not disclosed the size, value or specific configuration of the order, citing security sensitivities and confidentiality.
Powerus delegation meets Asim Munir
The development follows a meeting between a Powerus delegation led by Velicovich and Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on September 16.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting covered defence procurement, production and long-term capacity building.
However, the military’s statement did not publicly mention the MoU or the initial order. Reuters reported that the military had not immediately responded to a request for comment on the agreement.
Details of drone order remain confidential
Velicovich said the agreement falls within the broader category of unmanned aerial systems but declined to provide further details.
He also declined to disclose the financial value of the order, citing confidentiality and security concerns.
Powerus develops aerial and maritime drone systems for military and industrial applications.
The company said it is also exploring opportunities to develop technology jointly with Pakistani partners and potentially manufacture technology in Pakistan.
Powerus co-founder and CEO Andrew Fox said the company sees opportunities for US technology firms in Pakistan’s developing private defence sector. Velicovich described the potential relationship as combining US and Pakistani technology capabilities.
Powerus merger linked to Trump family-backed company
The agreement also comes ahead of a planned corporate merger involving Powerus and Aureus Greenway Holdings, a publicly traded company backed by an investment fund associated with US President Donald Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump.
According to US regulatory filings cited by Reuters, the investment fund American Ventures is expected to hold a 9.9% beneficial ownership stake in the combined company after the merger.
Powerus and Aureus Greenway Holdings have said they expect the transaction to be completed in early October.
Powerus CEO Andrew Fox rejected suggestions that the company’s business growth or contracts were connected to the Trump family’s involvement.
A spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr said he is a passive investor and has no role in Powerus’s management, operations or contract procurement. The White House also said there were no conflicts of interest.
US-Pakistan defence ties
The agreement comes as Islamabad and Washington work to strengthen bilateral economic and defence relations after a period of strained ties.
Pakistan has been pursuing greater cooperation with the United States in several areas, while US companies have also been exploring opportunities in Pakistan’s defence and technology sectors.
The Powerus agreement represents a new commercial development in unmanned aerial systems, although the specific capabilities, quantity and financial value of the initial order have not been publicly disclosed.
The MoU and initial order are expected to be followed by discussions on defence procurement, production and possible technology cooperation.
