TEHRAN – Web Desk: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has warned Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Japan that they will face consequences for supporting a resolution against Iran.
Speaking to Iranian state television, Baqaei said Tehran was currently in a state of war and described maritime restrictions and blockades as equivalent to acts of war.
He also said Iran remained open to resolving regional issues through negotiations without the involvement of foreign powers.
Iran warns countries over resolution
Baqaei said Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Japan would have to face the consequences of their support for the resolution against Iran.
He did not provide further details about what specific measures Iran might take.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and countries in the wider Middle East, as the conflict continues to affect regional security and energy routes.
Tehran says it is in a state of war
Baqaei rejected the idea that Iran was currently simply in a state of either war or peace.
“We are in a state of war,” he said, according to the Geo News Urdu report, adding that maritime restrictions and a blockade amounted to acts of war.
The Iranian spokesman also said that Tehran considered its actions under the current circumstances to be defensive.
Iran claims control over Strait of Hormuz
Baqaei further claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remained under Iran’s complete control.
The strategically important waterway is a major route for global energy shipments, making developments around the strait closely watched by international markets.
Baqaei also argued that the United States should be held responsible for rising fuel prices globally. His statement represents the Iranian government’s position and was not independently verified in the report.
Iran calls for negotiations
The Iranian spokesman also responded to a meeting between Iran and Gulf countries, saying regional problems could be resolved through negotiations without the presence of foreign powers.
He described efforts to convince countries of this position as significant.
