Qatar Condemns Iranian Attacks on Gulf States, Calls for Immediate Halt
DOHA, QATAR — WEB DESK: Qatar has strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, warning that continued military action risks widening the Middle East conflict and undermining diplomatic efforts to restore regional stability.
In an official statement issued on September 2, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the three countries and said they breached international law, the United Nations Charter and principles of good-neighbourly relations.
Doha also expressed full solidarity with the targeted countries and backed what it described as legitimate measures to protect their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Qatar Warns of Dangerous Regional Escalation
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the continued attacks represented a dangerous escalation that could complicate attempts to de-escalate the conflict and undermine diplomatic and political initiatives aimed at restoring security and stability.
The ministry said Iran bore responsibility for the attacks, adopting unusually direct language as tensions between Tehran, Washington and several Arab states remain elevated.
Qatar’s statement followed reported Iranian attacks against targets in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait. The precise military effects and casualty or damage assessments from individual incidents remain subject to separate verification, and claims concerning particular targets should not be treated as independently established unless confirmed by the affected governments or other reliable sources.
Doha Calls for Immediate End to Military Action
Qatar called for an “immediate and complete halt” to military actions and attacks threatening regional security and stability. It also urged all sides to avoid measures that could expand the conflict.
Significantly, Doha paired its condemnation of Iran with a broader diplomatic appeal for a return to dialogue and negotiations.
The Foreign Ministry urged the parties to adhere to understandings reached through diplomatic efforts, highlighting Qatar’s preference for negotiations even while taking a firm position against attacks on neighbouring states.
