Baghdad says its Foreign Ministry will pursue legal measures under international law following the reported overnight strikes, while Washington maintains the operation was coordinated with Iraqi authorities.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — WEB DESK: Iraq’s National Security Council has instructed the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate legal measures following reported overnight airstrikes carried out by the United States and Saudi Arabia on Iraqi territory.

In a statement released by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the council directed the Foreign Ministry to document the incident and pursue legal action in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, while safeguarding Iraq’s sovereign rights.

Baghdad Condemns Hostile Actions

According to the official statement, the National Security Council reaffirmed the Iraqi government’s position that all hostile actions carried out on Iraqi territory are unacceptable, regardless of the party responsible or the justification offered.

The council also stressed that responding to security threats and addressing acts of aggression is solely the responsibility of the Iraqi government and its constitutional institutions.

Casualty Claims

The reported strikes followed attacks launched from Iraq toward Saudi Arabia, according to previous reports.

The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) claimed that 20 personnel were killed and 32 others wounded in the airstrikes. These casualty figures have not been independently verified.

US Position

US President Donald Trump said the military operation was conducted jointly by US and Saudi forces and claimed it had been coordinated with the Iraqi government.
