The Bangladesh Cricket Board has split the leadership of its red-ball and white-ball teams, with Litton Das taking charge of the ODI side alongside his existing T20 captaincy.
DHAKA, Bangladesh — WEB DESK: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das as the new captain of the national men’s One-Day International (ODI) team, replacing Mehidy Hasan Miraz in a major leadership reshuffle.
The decision was approved during a Board of Directors meeting held on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Litton, 31, already serves as Bangladesh’s T20 International captain and will now lead the country’s white-ball teams in both ODIs and T20Is. Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as captain of the Test side.
Separate Captains for Red-Ball and White-Ball Cricket
BCB President Tamim Iqbal said the board believes appointing separate captains for red-ball and white-ball cricket is the most effective long-term strategy for the national team.
The board also named Towhid Hridoy as vice-captain of the white-ball teams, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as vice-captain of the Test side.
Leadership Change Follows Zimbabwe ODI Series Defeat
The captaincy change comes after Bangladesh’s recent ODI series defeat against Zimbabwe.
During Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s tenure as ODI captain, Bangladesh won 10 of their 20 ODI matches. The team also secured home series victories against the West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia under his leadership.
Litton Das Returns to ODI Leadership
Litton Das has previous experience leading Bangladesh in ODIs, having captained the team in seven matches. His most notable achievement came in 2022, when Bangladesh secured a historic 2-1 ODI series victory over India.
The BCB also announced that the performance of the national team leadership will be reviewed every six months to ensure greater stability and avoid frequent captaincy changes.
