Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has confirmed that Tehran rejected US proposals presented through mediators during indirect talks, leading to the collapse of the negotiations and the departure of the US delegation .
Talks Initiated in Islamabad
Gharibabadi said the negotiations began in Islamabad, where the US side presented a plan containing conditions that Iran found unacceptable. Tehran immediately rejected the demands, calling them “contrary to Iran’s fundamental position.”
According to the Iranian official, the US delegation had made it clear from the outset that failure to accept their proposals would result in the talks being considered unsuccessful—which ultimately led to their departure without any attempt by Iran to prolong the discussions .
Iran’s Policy on Strait of Hormuz
Gharibabadi also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, revealing that Omani mediators had proposed temporarily keeping the southern route open for shipping, but Iran rejected this as well.
He emphasized that Iran’s policy on keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed remains unchanged and that the country would not accept any plan that contradicts its core principles .
