Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will present the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 today (Wednesday) at 2:00 PM during a session of the Sindh Assembly.
The budget proposals will be formally approved during a cabinet meeting scheduled prior to the assembly session.
According to budget documents, the provincial government has proposed a massive Rs3,500 billion budget for the next fiscal year. The non-development (current) expenditure is proposed at Rs2,560 billion, reflecting a significant increase of Rs418 billion compared to the current year’s allocation of Rs2,142 billion .
Major Cuts in Development Spending
In a significant shift, the development budget is set to face substantial reductions. The government has proposed excluding new development schemes for the upcoming fiscal year.
A total of 3,642 ongoing development schemes at both provincial and district levels have been allocated Rs400 billion . The overall development budget is proposed to be reduced from Rs1,018 billion to Rs720 billion , a cut of nearly Rs300 billion .
Provincial development spending is proposed to decrease from Rs520 billion to Rs385 billion . The district development budget faces a sharp reduction of Rs40 billion, with only Rs15 billion allocated for district-level schemes compared to Rs55 billion in the current fiscal year .
The federal government is expected to provide Rs64 billion in development grants, while funding from international financial institutions for development projects is estimated at Rs256 billion .
The budget presentation comes at a critical time as the provincial government faces fiscal constraints amid broader economic challenges, including IMF conditionalities that have impacted provincial spending patterns .
