Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Tehran’s agreement to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States is aimed at testing whether Washington is genuinely committed to respecting the rights of the Iranian nation .
In a statement issued on his official X account on Monday, Pezeshkian said nearly all members of Iran’s parliament (Majlis) supported the text of the MoU following intensive discussions. He emphasized that the purpose of accepting the agreement was to assess America’s true resolve to respect the rights of the Iranian people in practice .
The Iranian president also credited Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei with playing the most significant role in incorporating clauses to safeguard Iran’s national interests into the document .
“The guidance of the esteemed Supreme Leader played the greatest role in incorporating clauses to safeguard Iran’s national interests, and we are grateful to him for that,” Pezeshkian said .
Pezeshkian described the MoU as the result of months of sustained diplomatic contacts and negotiations, representing an important step toward ending the war, reducing tensions, and initiating meaningful talks .
He added that Iran has prepared itself for all possible scenarios and possesses the capability to deal with any outcome. “If all provisions of the memorandum are fully and fairly implemented, this document could become a source of pride for Iran,” he said .
The president stressed that Iran will not accept any action that affects its fundamental rights or sovereignty. He reiterated that the negotiating team acts with “absolute obedience” to the Supreme Leader and will not deviate from the frameworks and policies set by the Leader .
It may be recalled that Pezeshkian, in recent statements and addresses to national conferences, has described the agreement as a significant diplomatic achievement for Iran and the region’s resistance forces, noting that limited differences over certain parts of the agreement had been resolved.
The MoU between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday in a formal ceremony, after which the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened .
