Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Funeral Events Set for July 4–9

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iranian state media has announced a series of public farewell and funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, scheduled from July 4 to July 9, with burial planned in the city of Mashhad.

According to official reports, public mourning ceremonies will begin on July 4 at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla, followed by a major funeral procession in the capital on July 6. Additional funeral prayers are expected to be held on July 7 in the holy city of Qom.

The final burial is scheduled for July 9 at the shrine complex of Imam Reza in Mashhad, one of Iran’s most significant religious sites, Imam Reza Shrine, which attracts millions of pilgrims each year.

Iranian media reports have linked the announcement to earlier claims surrounding the Supreme Leader’s death following a reported incident in February, though these details have not been independently verified internationally.

Authorities say large-scale public participation is expected in the ceremonies, including domestic and foreign dignitaries, religious scholars, and millions of mourners. Tight security arrangements are being prepared to manage the gatherings.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late leader, is also reported to have taken a key leadership role in recent months, according to Iranian sources.

Ali Khamenei, who assumed the position of Supreme Leader in 1989 following the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has been a central figure in Iran’s political and religious system for decades, shaping the country’s domestic and foreign policy during periods of regional tension and nuclear negotiations.
