Iran says peace talks depend on US behavior and trust issues

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has issued a firm warning that no peace agreement with the United States will be possible unless Washington changes its current approach, according to senior Iranian officials.

Ibrahim Azizi, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said in an interview that Tehran does not trust the United States and believes that if the current US stance continues, even sustaining negotiations could become difficult, let alone reaching a peace deal.

Azizi stated that Iran views the talks as part of a broader political and diplomatic struggle, but remains open to dialogue if the United States demonstrates seriousness and adherence to international principles.

He emphasized that Iran is committed to internationally accepted diplomatic norms and expects the same from Washington to keep negotiations viable.

Highlighting key obstacles, Azizi said Iran has yet to see a practical framework for reaching a final agreement. He pointed to frozen Iranian assets as a major example of unresolved trust issues affecting the process.

He further clarified that uranium enrichment and Iran’s nuclear programme are not currently part of the ongoing talks agenda.

On the possibility of a future deal, Azizi said progress depends entirely on US actions, warning that without trust and concrete steps, negotiations will remain fragile and unlikely to succeed.

He added that Iran expects its conditions to be met, including protection of national interests and progress on economic and regional issues. Otherwise, Tehran will not change its position or reduce support for its regional allies.
