Serena Williams returns to tennis court at age 44

Date:

London, United Kingdom – Web Desk: Former world number one Serena Williams is set to return to the tennis court at the age of 44, marking a highly anticipated comeback nearly four years after stepping away from competitive tennis.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion said she is returning without any pressure to prove herself, adding that her main motivation is to enjoy the game and to be seen by her daughters playing on court again.

Williams is scheduled to feature in the doubles event at the Queen’s Club tournament alongside Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko.

She emphasized that winning or losing is no longer her primary focus, noting that she has already achieved more success in her career than most athletes do in a lifetime.

The tennis legend also reflected on her previous comeback after the birth of her first daughter, Olympia, when she reached four Grand Slam finals.

Her second daughter, Adira, born in 2023, has yet to see her mother compete on the professional tour.

While Williams has not ruled out a future return to singles competition, she said her immediate focus is on doubles, with singles requiring further preparation.
