US Issues Visas to Iran Team for World Cup Participation

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States has issued visas to Iran’s national football team to allow their participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, White House officials confirmed.

A White House official told Reuters that players from Iran’s squad have been granted entry visas ahead of the tournament scheduled to begin later this month. The decision ensures the team can travel to the United States for their fixtures.

Earlier, Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, had said the team had not yet received visas. However, U.S. officials confirmed that the documents were issued overnight, resolving earlier uncertainty.

Iranian football authorities have not yet issued an official response. Iranian state media, meanwhile, reported that some technical staff members of the team are still awaiting visa approval.

According to the schedule, Iran will play its opening Group G match against New Zealand on June 15 in Los Angeles. The team is also set to face Belgium in Los Angeles and Egypt in Seattle during the group stage.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions between Washington and Tehran, where sporting participation continues despite broader diplomatic challenges.
