Turkish FM’s Strong Reply to India Over Pakistan Friendship: ‘Don’t See It as Hostility’

Date:

SINGAPORE – Web Desk: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has exposed the Indian government’s unease over strong Pakistan-Turkey relations, delivering a strong rebuttal during a lecture at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Singapore.

According to the Indian publication Hindustan Times, Fidan stated that Turkey’s close and brotherly relations with Pakistan should not be a problem for India, and that India should not view Turkey’s friendship with Pakistan as hostility or a wrong move against it. He noted that Turkey is not the only country with good and brotherly relations with Pakistan — there are other nations as well. “If India expresses displeasure against any country simply because it has good relations with Pakistan, then what can be said about that?” Fidan added.

According to experts, the Turkish Foreign Minister’s clear and unequivocal statement has once again exposed the weaknesses of Indian foreign policy, with changing global circumstances teaching India that respecting other countries’ independent diplomatic decisions is the foundation of effective foreign policy.
