Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue is expected to receive expanded powers to investigate government employees whose assets exceed their declared sources of income, according to officials briefing a Senate committee.
Senior officials from the Establishment Division informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue that a new artificial intelligence-based monitoring system would be introduced to identify unusual increases in wealth and assets among public servants.
The proposed system will generate “red flag” alerts in cases where significant or suspicious asset growth is detected, particularly among officials who consistently submit asset declarations over multiple years.
Federal Secretary Establishment Division Nabeel Awan told lawmakers that from December 2026, all government officers from Grade 17 to Grade 22 will be required to disclose their financial and asset details through a digital declaration system being developed in consultation with the FBR.
Under the proposed framework, officers would also have to declare family assets and details of foreign travel. The information is expected to be made publicly accessible through the digital platform.
Officials said senior FBR authorities, including the chairman and member inland revenue, would have the authority to initiate investigations if the AI-based scrutiny system identifies unexplained or abnormal increases in assets.
The move is part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption oversight within Pakistan’s public sector.
