Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan has decided not to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the international spot market for the time being, opting instead to wait for potentially cheaper supplies from Qatar, according to official sources.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) has reportedly rejected the lowest bids submitted by BP Singapore and TotalEnergies in recent spot LNG tenders. The company has informed relevant stakeholders of its decision, citing better pricing expectations from long-term arrangements.
Sources said Pakistan is anticipating two LNG cargoes from Qatar under a term contract at more favorable rates compared to current global spot market prices. The expected pricing is linked to approximately 13.37% of Brent crude oil rates.
Officials indicated that Qatar has also signaled the availability of LNG cargoes for Pakistan, strengthening expectations of improved energy procurement terms in the coming months.
The potential shipments are expected to be delivered via the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route that has recently seen heightened geopolitical sensitivity.
Government authorities are prioritizing long-term LNG contracts over spot market purchases as part of a broader strategy to reduce energy import costs and stabilize the country’s power and gas pricing structure.
