Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, may receive significant financial relief under a quarterly tariff adjustment, according to a statement issued by National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
The regulator said power distribution companies (DISCOs) have filed a request seeking a reduction of Rs63.94 billion for the first quarter of the calendar year 2026. A public hearing on the petition is scheduled for May 19.
According to the application, capacity charges decreased by Rs36.83 billion during January–March, while system usage charges and market operation fees saw a reduction of Rs11.24 billion.
The DISCOs have also requested a decrease of Rs23.51 billion under incremental units, potentially translating into lower electricity tariffs for consumers nationwide.
However, officials clarified that the final decision on passing the relief to consumers will be made after regulatory review and approval by NEPRA.
Energy analysts say such adjustments, if approved, could provide much-needed relief to households and businesses amid ongoing economic pressures and rising utility costs.
