Pakistani Prisoners in Cambodia Face Harsh Conditions: Lawmaker

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: A senior Pakistani lawmaker has raised alarm over the plight of Pakistani citizens reportedly detained in difficult conditions in Cambodia, urging immediate diplomatic intervention for their release.

Agha Rafiullah, a member of the National Assembly from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and head of the parliamentary committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Rights, said multiple Pakistanis are being held in Cambodian prisons under “extremely adverse and helpless circumstances.”

In a formal letter addressed to Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, the lawmaker expressed serious concern about the conditions of detention and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take urgent diplomatic steps to secure their release.

Rafiullah emphasized the need to ensure the safe repatriation of the detained citizens, adding that video evidence related to the prisoners’ conditions had also been shared with the foreign secretary.

Separately, he praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, describing Islamabad’s role in promoting dialogue and global peace as “commendable.”

The situation highlights ongoing concerns about the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and the need for stronger diplomatic engagement to safeguard citizens abroad.
