Washington, United States – Web Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s leadership while announcing the cancellation of a planned American delegation visit to Islamabad linked to Iran ceasefire negotiations.
According to international media reports, Trump shared the update on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that he had decided to halt the proposed visit. He revealed that senior aides Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had been instructed not to travel to Pakistan for discussions related to Iran.
Speaking briefly to reporters aboard Air Force One in Florida, Trump said he holds a positive view of Pakistan and its leadership. He described Pakistan as a “great country,” while commending Field Marshal Asim Munir as “impressive” and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as “a great leader.”
The U.S. president noted that Pakistan’s leadership is also keen to see progress in negotiations with Iran. However, he questioned the practicality of long-distance diplomatic visits, citing time constraints, travel costs, and limited engagement outcomes.
Trump further remarked that even if the delegation had traveled, it would not have met Iran’s key decision-makers but rather less influential figures. He emphasized that the United States is prepared to engage directly with those who hold real authority in Iran, adding that Tehran can initiate contact at any time.
The development comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where global powers continue to explore pathways for dialogue and de-escalation.
