Israel-Lebanon Talks Set for Thursday in Washington

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: Peace talks between Israel and Lebanon are set to take place on Thursday in Washington under US mediation, as a 10-day ceasefire between the two sides approaches its end.

According to international media reports, a senior US State Department official confirmed that the negotiations will be held at the ambassadorial level. US officials say there has been “positive progress” since the dialogue process began on April 14.

The United States, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is continuing to facilitate direct engagement between the two sides in an effort to reduce tensions and prevent renewed conflict.

The talks follow weeks of intense clashes in southern Lebanon involving Hezbollah, which resulted in significant escalation between Israel and Lebanon. A temporary 10-day ceasefire is currently in place after six weeks of fighting.

Last week marked the first formal diplomatic engagement between Israel and Lebanon since 1993, a development described by the US President as a historic opportunity.

The US and Israel have repeatedly called on the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah, a key point of contention in the ongoing negotiations.
