Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a plan to upgrade the city’s traffic management system by introducing smart traffic signals in line with international standards across major roads and intersections.
According to Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the initiative aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city through modern technology-based signal systems.
He said that smart traffic signals will be installed on key highways and intersections, while the municipal commissioner has been instructed to begin the procurement process for the new system at the earliest.
In the first phase, the Red Zone and I.I. Chundrigar Road will be developed as model corridors. In the second phase, upgrades will extend to M.A. Jinnah Road and other major roads across the city.
The mayor emphasized that improving basic infrastructure alongside strict enforcement of traffic laws is essential for resolving Karachi’s traffic challenges.
He added that effective traffic regulation through smart systems would significantly reduce congestion and help streamline urban mobility in Pakistan’s largest city.
Officials said the project is part of broader efforts to modernize Karachi’s urban infrastructure and align it with global smart city standards.
