Kathmandu, Nepal – Web Desk: In a historic and unprecedented political development, Nepal’s young rapper-turned-politician, Balendra Shah, has been sworn in as the country’s prime minister following a viral musical success.
Shah, popularly known as “Balen,” released his latest rap song Jay Mahakali a day before taking office, which quickly went viral, gaining international attention. At 35, he becomes Nepal’s youngest-ever prime minister.
President Ram Chandra Poudel formally appointed Shah after his party, the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, secured a decisive victory in the 275-member parliament, winning 182 seats. The election followed nationwide youth protests against corruption and unemployment, which toppled the previous government.
Political analysts note that Shah’s rise marks a unique intersection of culture, social media influence, and politics, signaling a new era of youth-driven leadership in Nepal.
