Trump Urges Japan to Help Secure Strait of Hormuz

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has urged Japan to play a more active role in securing the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions with Iran, during a meeting at the White House with Japan’s newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

According to international media reports, the two leaders discussed the ongoing Iran conflict and its implications for global security and energy markets. Trump called on Japan to increase its role in protecting key maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit chokepoint.

Takaichi emphasized the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and warned that instability could place severe pressure on the global economy. She said Japan has engaged Iran diplomatically to discourage attacks on energy infrastructure.

Trump claimed that US and Israeli operations have significantly weakened Iran’s naval, air, and military capabilities, adding that the conflict is progressing faster than expected. He stressed that Japan, which relies heavily on energy imports through the Strait of Hormuz, has a responsibility to contribute to its security.

He also noted that the United States maintains a strong military presence in Japan and expects allied cooperation, while adding that Washington is capable of acting independently if required. Trump criticized some allies for hesitancy, calling such responses “a mistake.”
