Baghdad, Iraq — Web Desk: Missile and drone attacks have reportedly targeted diplomatic missions in Iraq, including the Embassy of the United States, Baghdad and the United Arab Emirates Consulate, raising fresh concerns about security in the region.
According to international media reports, an explosion was heard at the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad after a projectile landed near a helicopter landing area inside the facility. Witnesses reported smoke rising from the compound, which is located in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.
Initial reports from agencies including Reuters and Associated Press indicated that a missile struck near the helipad within the embassy compound. There were no immediate confirmed reports of casualties.
However, Agence France-Presse reported that the incident may have involved a drone strike, and authorities are still investigating the exact nature of the attack.
Separately, officials said the UAE consulate in Iraq’s Kurdistan region was also targeted for the second time within a week. Two security guards were reportedly injured in the attack.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly condemned the targeting of diplomatic missions, calling it a clear violation of international law and diplomatic norms.
The UAE urged the Iraqi government to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and hold those responsible accountable. Officials warned that such attacks could escalate tensions and threaten regional security and stability.
The attacks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, where diplomatic facilities and military sites have increasingly become targets in ongoing regional conflicts.
