Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh government has announced stricter austerity measures to manage resources amid ongoing energy challenges. The decision includes a 50% reduction in fuel allocation for government departments and grounding 60% of official vehicles, while ensuring essential services remain operational.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired the austerity committee meeting, attended by provincial ministers and relevant officials. The committee exempted operational vehicles, police mobiles, ambulances, fire brigades, and other critical services from the restrictions.
A monitoring committee, led by the Secretary General Administration and Secretary Excise, will oversee compliance, maintain records of grounded vehicles, and take action against violations. Project vehicles will also be audited and recovered as necessary.
In addition, the government has mandated work-from-home arrangements and a four-day working week for certain departments. Provincial schools will remain closed from March 16 to March 31, but examinations will proceed as scheduled.
Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the measures aim to reduce energy consumption and government expenditures without affecting public services, instructing all departments to strictly implement the austerity directives.
