United Arab Emirates Closes Embassy in Iran After Missile Attacks

Date:

Abu Dhabi (Web Desk) – The United Arab Emirates has announced the closure of its embassy in Iran and the withdrawal of its ambassador and diplomatic staff following recent missile attacks, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

In a statement posted on social media, the ministry’s director of strategic communications, Afra Al-Hamli, condemned the missile strikes and said the decision to shut the embassy in Tehran reflected concerns over security and sovereignty. The UAE cited reports that its territory had been targeted in the attacks, prompting the diplomatic withdrawal.

Al-Hamli described the missile strikes as having placed civilians at serious risk and criticised what she called violations of international law and the United Nations Charter. She emphasised that attacks on residential areas, airports, ports and public infrastructure represented unacceptable escalation and endangered innocent lives.

The ministry stated that the decision underscores the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding its security and sovereignty and its opposition to any acts of aggression. Officials reiterated that diplomatic relations would remain suspended until conditions allowed for a safe and constructive environment.

Iran has not publicly responded to the UAE’s announcement. Regional tensions have escalated following exchanges of military action involving Iran and neighbouring states, raising concerns about broader instability in the Middle East.

Diplomatic analysts say the embassy closure reflects growing fragmentation in regional relations amid security challenges and geopolitical uncertainty.
