PTI Leaders Appeal to Chief Justice Over Denied Medical Access

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail have filed an appeal requesting the Chief Justice of Pakistan to intervene after being denied access to their personal doctors and withholding of information from their families.

Through their lawyer, PTI leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mahmood Al-Rasheed submitted a written statement highlighting these concerns. The appeal draws a comparison with the 2019 case of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was transferred to Services Hospital due to low platelet counts, where his personal doctor, Dr. Adnan, participated in all medical board meetings, and his family and legal advisors had full access.

The PTI leaders assert that, in contrast, founder Imran Khan’s treatment rights are being obstructed at every level. His family, legal counsel, and personal doctor have been denied access, which they say violates his basic medical and human rights.

Legal experts note that the appeal underscores ongoing concerns over the treatment of political prisoners in Pakistan, particularly regarding access to necessary medical care, transparency, and family notifications.
