India’s World Snooker Championship at Visa Risk

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: India’s hosting of the World Snooker Championship scheduled for November this year faces uncertainty due to reported visa issues involving Pakistani players.

The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) has warned that the tournament could be relocated if visas are not granted to Pakistani participants. The governing body oversees major international snooker and billiards competitions worldwide.

Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) President Abdul Qadir said in an interview that the event may be shifted to another country if Pakistani players are denied entry. He noted that a similar situation occurred in 2024, when visa complications prevented Pakistani cueists from participating in a major international tournament.

The World Snooker Championship is regarded as one of the sport’s premier global competitions, attracting leading players from Asia and other regions.

Pakistan’s recent performances have added to the significance of the issue. Muhammad Asif and Irfan recently reached the pre-quarterfinal stage of the Asian Snooker Championship, enhancing Pakistan’s standing in international snooker.

Abdul Qadir stated that a final decision on participation would be made in line with guidance from the Government of Pakistan once the visa process is clarified.

If the matter remains unresolved, it could impact India’s credibility as a host nation and renew debate over the intersection of sports and politics in the region.
