India Helicopter Makes Emergency Sea Landing, 7 Rescued

Date:

Port Blair, India – Web Desk: A helicopter in India made an emergency landing in the sea near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Thursday, but all seven passengers and crew were rescued safely, officials confirmed.

The chopper, operated by a government helicopter service, took off at approximately 8:45 AM from Sri Vijaya Puram en route to Mayabandar. Around 9:30 AM, a technical malfunction occurred while flying over the sea, prompting the pilot to execute a controlled water landing.

Indian aviation authorities stated that the pilot’s swift response ensured the safety of all on board, which included two crew members, five passengers, and a child. The passengers were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for preliminary medical check-ups. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Senior officials from India’s Civil Aviation Authority indicated that initial evidence suggests a mechanical issue led to the emergency water landing. A full investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause.

This incident comes shortly after another aviation accident involving an air ambulance in India, highlighting a recent spate of aerial emergencies in the region.
