Islamabad Court Grants Bail to PTI Leaders in Red Zone Riot Case

Date:

Islamabad (Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted post-arrest bail to several leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in connection with a case related to alleged unrest in the federal capital’s Red Zone.

According to court proceedings, ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing involving multiple PTI lawmakers accused of involvement in disturbances in a high-security area of Islamabad.

The court approved bail for Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) Shafqat Awan and Umar Aslam, along with Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) Rafat Shah, Sarfraz Dogar, Malik Asad, and Tayyab Rashid. The suspects were granted release against surety bonds of Rs10,000 each.

Authorities have registered a case against the accused under 11 legal provisions, including charges related to terrorism and attempted murder. Prosecutors allege that the defendants participated in violent protests, opened fire on police personnel, attempted to seize weapons, and issued threats of serious consequences.

The case also claims that government vehicles were damaged during the alleged unrest, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and disorder within the Red Zone — a highly restricted area housing key government institutions.

The proceedings are part of ongoing legal actions linked to political protests and security incidents in Islamabad, as Pakistan continues to witness heightened political tensions.
