Ramadan Begins in Gaza Amid Ruins, Displacement and War Losses

Date:

Gaza City, Palestinian Territories – Web Desk: Ramadan has begun in Gaza this year amid widespread destruction, displacement and memories of those killed in ongoing hostilities over the past two years, as millions of Palestinians continue to face severe humanitarian challenges.

According to international news agencies, families living in damaged and overcrowded refugee camps have begun modest preparations for the holy month despite poverty, hunger and homelessness. Tents and temporary shelters, many of which offer limited protection from harsh weather, have been decorated with handmade drawings, lanterns and simple lights by children and residents.

Residents said the arrival of the Ramadan moon brought moments of joy and hope despite the difficult conditions. Streets inside the camps were illuminated with lanterns, while calls of “Allahu Akbar” echoed through the narrow alleys, reflecting a strong sense of faith and resilience among the population.

Observers say the holy month carries deep significance for Gaza’s residents, symbolizing patience, community solidarity and spiritual strength, even as the effects of war, humanitarian crisis and uncertainty continue to shape daily life.
