Tarique Rahman Dedicates BNP Election Victory to Democracy Fighters

Date:

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Web Desk: Tarique Rahman has dedicated his party’s historic election victory to citizens who sacrificed for democracy during the 2024 protest movement, following a decisive win in Bangladesh’s general elections.

According to the Election Commission, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies secured a two-thirds majority, winning 212 seats in parliament. The Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance secured 77 seats, while voter turnout was recorded at approximately 59 percent.

In his first address after the election results, Rahman said the victory belonged to Bangladesh and its democratic struggle. He called for national unity at a time when the country faces major economic challenges, governance issues, and the need to restore law and justice.

Rahman said the incoming government’s top priorities would include economic recovery, stabilizing the financial system, and establishing effective governance. He urged political forces to rise above differences and work together in the national interest.

The election follows a recent referendum that approved constitutional reforms, including term limits for the prime minister, the establishment of an upper house of parliament, and measures to strengthen judicial independence.

The results mark a significant political shift in Bangladesh and are expected to influence regional politics, governance reforms, and democratic institutions in South Asia.
