Trump Open to Meeting Iran’s Khamenei, Rubio Confirms at Munich

Date:

Munich, Germany | Web Desk — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump is open to meeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei if a request is made, emphasizing that dialogue is key to resolving global disputes.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Rubio described the potential meeting as a practical step rather than an endorsement of Iran’s policies. “President Trump is willing to meet anyone if it helps address international issues through negotiation,” Rubio said. “If Ayatollah Khamenei requests a meeting tomorrow, it could happen. This is not because Trump agrees with him, but because solutions can be found through discussion.”

Rubio also addressed U.S. military deployments in the Middle East, calling the decision to send a second aircraft carrier a precautionary measure. “The additional naval presence is intended to prevent Iran from taking actions that could escalate tensions in the region,” he said.

The comments come amid rising concerns over Iran-U.S. relations and ongoing debates over military and diplomatic strategies in the Gulf region.
