Jamaat-e-Islami Holds Protests Across Karachi, Major Roads Blocked

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan | Web Desk — Jamaat-e-Islami has announced protests at ten major locations across Karachi on Sunday, February 15, following allegations of police brutality against peaceful demonstrators outside the Sindh Assembly.

The party is observing a nationwide “Day of Protest” against excessive use of force, including baton charges and shelling, on its members during a rally calling for empowered local governance.

In Karachi, protests are planned at key roads including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Super Highway, National Highway, Orangi Road, Korangi Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, and Mauripur Road, among others.

Yesterday, police dispersed Jamaat-e-Islami workers near the Sindh Assembly using baton charges and shelling, resulting in several arrests. Party leaders have emphasized the peaceful nature of the protests and called for the protection of demonstrators’ rights.

Authorities have warned commuters to expect traffic disruptions and advised alternative routes as the city prepares for the large-scale demonstrations.
