Karachi, Pakistan — Web Desk: Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has said Pakistan hold a strong position ahead of the highly anticipated match against India scheduled for February 15, citing familiarity with local conditions as a key advantage.
Butt said Pakistan’s continuous stay, training, and preparation at the same venue, along with acclimatisation to local weather and pitch conditions, could give the hosts a clear edge over the visiting Indian side. He noted that teams arriving from abroad typically require time to adjust to new environments, while Pakistan’s players are already aligned with the conditions.
“India have an experienced squad, but whenever a team arrives at a new venue, they have to start fresh and adapt to the conditions,” Butt said. “Pakistan will benefit from being settled in these conditions.”
He also highlighted the importance of pitch conditions in determining the match outcome. Butt said if the pitches remain slow and offer assistance to spinners, Pakistan could gain a significant advantage, as their playing XI includes multiple spin options.
“Pakistan have five to six spin options available, which could tilt the balance if the pitch supports spin bowling,” he added.
Butt stressed the strategic significance of the Pakistan-India clash beyond immediate tournament qualification. While teams can progress to the next stage by defeating associate nations, he said the high-profile match against India will serve as a crucial test ahead of the Super Eight stage.
He said the match would help the team management identify strengths and weaknesses and refine future strategies based on performance and results.
The Pakistan-India rivalry remains one of the most followed contests in international cricket, with millions of fans expected to watch the encounter worldwide. Analysts say conditions, team balance, and in-game tactics could play a decisive role in the outcome of the match.
