Operation Sindoor Victory Was a Staged Narrative, Says Global Journal Report

Date:

New York Review of Books questions Modi government’s claims on war, economy, and democracy, calling “Shining India” a product of hype and selective data.

A startling report published in the international journal New York Review of Books has raised serious concerns over India’s official narratives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In an article titled “Hype and Fraud in India”, renowned author Christopher de Bellaigue argues that the Modi government relies heavily on exaggerated claims and distorted data on sensitive issues such as economic growth, democracy, and military success.

The report states that transparency in India’s economic and electoral systems has weakened, while the public is presented with a carefully curated state narrative. The much-publicized concept of “Shining India,” the author claims, is largely limited to propaganda, publicity campaigns, and extremist policies targeting minorities.

One of the most striking aspects of the article focuses on warfare, describing India’s claimed victory in Operation Sindoor as a staged narrative. According to the journal, during heightened tensions between Pakistan and India last May, several Indian aircraft were shot down—an event analysts termed Pakistan’s “most significant symbolic success” in decades.

The article concludes that India’s leadership has transformed war and development into political theatre, prioritizing narratives and selective statistics over ground realities such as poverty alleviation, employment, and democratic integrity.
