ATC Frees Aleema Khan After Bail Bonds in November 26 Protest Case

Date:

RAWALPINDI – The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday allowed Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, to leave after approving two bail bonds worth Rs1 million each in the November 26 protest case.

Aleema Khan had been taken into temporary judicial custody when she appeared before the court and requested permission to leave, citing her lawyer’s engagement at the Supreme Court. Prosecutor Zaheer Shah argued that under Section 351 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the accused remained in judicial custody.

As she stepped out of the courtroom, female police officers detained her and escorted her back inside. The court directed that she must not leave the premises until proceedings concluded. Her lawyer Faisal Malik later arrived, after which the court accepted the bail bonds previously submitted and ordered her release.

In addition, the court fined eight witnesses Rs10,000 each for employing delaying tactics. It noted that Aleema Khan had already complied with its earlier order by submitting bail bonds during a prior hearing.

The ATC has previously issued multiple arrest warrants against Aleema Khan in connection with the case. On the request of the defence counsel, further proceedings were adjourned until December 1.
