Gaza City — Hamas leadership has announced that various Palestinian factions have reached a consensus to transfer Gaza’s post-war administration to a non-political technocratic committee.
According to Arab media reports, the agreement was formalized in a joint statement issued following a meeting convened by Hamas, bringing together representatives from multiple Palestinian organizations.
The statement confirmed that all parties agreed the administrative responsibilities of Gaza, following the end of hostilities, should be entrusted to a technical committee. This body would oversee daily governance and spearhead reconstruction efforts, operating independently of political affiliations.
However, the statement did not clarify whether the Palestinian Authority, led by President Mahmoud Abbas and dominated by the Fatah party, is part of the agreement.
Israeli and Arab media sources reported that President Abbas had instructed his aides not to attend the meeting due to ongoing disputes over Hamas’s participation.
Hamas’s announcement also omitted details regarding the composition of the technocratic committee and the mechanism by which its members would be selected.
It is worth noting that U.S. officials indicated last week that the formation of an interim administration for Gaza is not currently among their strategic priorities.
