ISLAMABAD — In a significant step toward bolstering international cooperation against financial crimes, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on combating corruption, money laundering, and asset recovery.

The agreement was formalized between Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha). NAB Chairman Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed and Nazaha President Mazin bin Ibrahim signed the MoU on behalf of their respective countries, with senior officials from both institutions present at the ceremony—highlighting the growing strategic partnership in promoting transparency and accountability.

Under the MoU, both nations will collaborate on joint investigations, intelligence sharing, and mutual support in anti-corruption initiatives. The accord aims to strengthen institutional ties and enhance coordination in the detection and prevention of financial crimes.

The two sides also agreed to maintain regular contact to ensure an effective role in curbing corruption at both domestic and international levels.

During the meeting, the Saudi delegation lauded NAB’s impressive track record in asset recovery and its global recognition for integrity-driven operations. Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the global fight against corruption and emphasized the country’s dedication to expanding cooperation with international transparency organizations.

He also commended Saudi Arabia’s anti-corruption reforms, describing them as a transformative direction for the region. The NAB chief expressed confidence that the agreement would further strengthen the brotherly ties between the two nations.

To conclude the meeting, Nazir Ahmed extended a formal invitation to Nazaha President Mazin bin Ibrahim to visit Pakistan in the near future.
