25 US States Sue Trump Administration Over New Import Tariffs

Date:

WASHINGTON – Web Desk: Twenty-five Democratic-led US states have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration challenging recently imposed import tariffs, according to media reports.

The lawsuit was filed in the US Court of International Trade. The states argue that the new tariffs — imposed on nearly 60 trading partners and the European Union — are an attempt to replace previous tariffs that were declared illegal by the US Supreme Court. The states allege that the administration exceeded its legal authority and misused relevant legislation.

The Trump administration has defended the tariffs, stating they were lawfully enacted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and are aimed at addressing products made with forced labor.
