15-Year-Old Karachi Student Shot Dead During Home Robbery in Manghopir
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A 15-year-old student was shot dead during an alleged armed robbery at his family home in Karachi’s Manghopir area, with his father refusing to bury his son until those responsible are arrested.
The incident occurred in Ijtimah Gah Mehran City, where six armed men allegedly entered the family’s home intending to commit a robbery, according to the victim’s father.
The teenager was identified as Rosham, a matriculation student who his family said was a position holder. He was also the only brother of eight sisters.
Six Armed Men Allegedly Entered Home
Speaking to the media, Rosham’s father said six armed men entered the house, including two who were allegedly dressed in police uniforms.
The father said he heard movement inside the house and came out of his room to investigate. At around the same time, Rosham emerged from another room.
According to the father’s account, the suspects suddenly opened fire.
A bullet struck the teenager in the chest, killing him at the scene.
The account of six robbers and the allegation that two were wearing police uniforms come from the victim’s father and should be treated as allegations pending confirmation through the police investigation.
Father Refuses Son’s Burial Until Arrests
Following the killing, Rosham’s father issued an emotional demand for immediate action against those responsible.
He said he would not bury his son until the suspects were arrested.
The father also announced plans to stage a protest with his son’s body outside New Nazimabad. If arrests were still not made, he said the family would take its protest to Bilawal House.
He appealed to senior authorities to intervene and ensure the suspects were apprehended.
Father Alleges Gang Has Been Active for Weeks
Rosham’s father further alleged that people dressed in police uniforms had been committing crimes in the area for the past 20 to 25 days.
He claimed police had previously been informed about criminal activity in the locality but had failed to arrest those responsible.
These claims have not been independently verified and remain allegations made by the victim’s father.
He demanded that authorities investigate whether criminals were impersonating police officers and take effective action against any group involved in such robberies.
Killing Adds to Karachi Crime Concerns
The teenager’s death comes amid continuing concern over armed robberies and killings during street crime in Karachi.
In another recent incident, a 28-year-old LPG shop worker was shot dead during a robbery in Liaquatabad after armed men allegedly demanded his motorcycle keys. According to police figures cited in local reporting, that killing brought the number of citizens killed while resisting street criminals in Karachi this year to 50.
The Manghopir case is particularly disturbing because the reported attack took place inside a family home and involved a school student.
However, it remains important to distinguish between the family’s account and facts subsequently established by investigators.
Police-Uniform Allegation Requires Investigation
The father’s allegation that two suspects wore police uniforms adds a significant dimension to the case.
Criminals impersonating law-enforcement personnel can exploit the authority associated with official uniforms, potentially making it easier to enter homes or stop citizens.
At this stage, however, there is no confirmed evidence in the initial report establishing whether the suspects were genuine police personnel, criminals wearing imitation uniforms, or individuals using stolen or unauthorised uniforms.
