Asif Ali Zardari’s official visit to Berlin focuses on trade, investment and broader Pakistan–Germany cooperation as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
WEB DESK: President Asif Ali Zardari has departed for Germany for an official visit from October 22 to 24, 2026, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s economic and diplomatic ties with Europe’s largest economy.
According to the official announcement carried by the Associated Press of Pakistan, Zardari is scheduled to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, senior German leaders and business representatives. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation.
The visit comes as Pakistan and Germany mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, providing an opportunity to review their partnership and explore areas for deeper cooperation.
Trade and investment in focus
Pakistan is seeking stronger commercial engagement with Germany, particularly in trade, investment and business-to-business cooperation.
Earlier this month, Zardari called for closer ties in trade and investment, development cooperation, defence, skilled labour mobility and private-sector engagement. He also noted that Germany is Pakistan’s largest export destination within the European Union.
The upcoming meetings offer both sides an opportunity to discuss ways to expand commercial links and encourage investment. However, specific new agreements or investment commitments should not be treated as confirmed unless announced by the governments or participating businesses.
Meetings with German leadership
Zardari’s visit follows diplomatic engagement marking the anniversary of Pakistan–Germany relations. German President Steinmeier had welcomed the upcoming visit during a meeting with Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador, Salman Sharif, in Berlin on October 19.
The talks are expected to cover bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest. The visit also provides a platform for the two countries to discuss regional and international developments.
A milestone in bilateral relations
Pakistan and Germany have maintained diplomatic relations for 75 years, with cooperation spanning economic, political, educational, technological and other areas.
Islamabad has expressed interest in widening cooperation with Germany and strengthening commercial connections with European partners. The visit’s outcome will depend on the discussions and any concrete initiatives announced during the president’s meetings.
