Pakistan and Kashmiri communities worldwide observe Youm-e-Istehsal to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and highlight their right to self-determination.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — WEB DESK: Youm-e-Istehsal is being observed across Pakistan and by Kashmiri communities around the world to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and to reaffirm support for their right to self-determination.
The day marks the anniversary of August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 and reorganizing the region into two federally administered territories.
Across Pakistan, the day is being commemorated with rallies, seminars, public gatherings, walks and special prayers. Government institutions, political leaders and civil society organizations have organized events highlighting Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute and calling for a peaceful resolution in line with relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Special messages have also been issued by the country’s political and military leadership, reiterating Pakistan’s continued diplomatic, political and moral support for the people of Kashmir.
Kashmiri communities living abroad are holding similar events in several countries to raise international awareness of the Kashmir issue and advocate for what they describe as the protection of the rights of the people of IIOJK.
Pakistan maintains that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through dialogue and in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN resolutions. India, however, maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and considers the constitutional changes made in 2019 to be an internal matter.
The observance of Youm-e-Istehsal continues to serve as a platform for expressing solidarity with Kashmiris and highlighting the importance of peace, dialogue and regional stability.
