Yemeni army says 30 Houthis killed in Taiz clashes

Date:

Yemeni forces say more than 60 Houthi fighters were also wounded during 24 hours of clashes and airstrikes west of Taiz.

WEB DESK: Yemen’s army said Friday that 30 Houthi fighters were killed and more than 60 others wounded during 24 hours of clashes and airstrikes in the Al-Waziyah district west of Taiz.

A military source cited by Yemen’s Armed Forces Media Centre said Yemeni warplanes also targeted Houthi vehicles and gathering points in the area.

Fighting Intensifies West of Taiz

According to the Yemeni army, government forces carried out airstrikes against Houthi positions during the latest fighting.

The army also said its air force had previously targeted Houthi supply lines and deployment points in Taiz and the Red Sea port city of Mocha.

Government forces further claimed that they had repelled previous Houthi attacks in Taiz and struck positions and reinforcements belonging to the group.

The reported casualty figures were provided by Yemeni military sources and have not been independently verified.

Wider Conflict Along Yemen’s Red Sea Coast

The latest fighting comes amid a broader escalation along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline.

Reuters reported that the renewed conflict has displaced at least 112,000 people inside Yemen, while nearly 3,000 people have fled by sea to Djibouti, according to the UN’s migration agency.

The fighting has also increased concerns over the security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, an important maritime route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

Developments in Taiz

Taiz has remained one of the key fronts in Yemen’s conflict, with government forces and Houthi fighters continuing to contest territory and strategic positions.

The Yemeni army said its recent operations have focused on Houthi positions, supply routes and reinforcements in several areas.
