Veteran Bollywood Actor Nana Patekar Dies at 75 in Goa
GOA, INDIA — WEB DESK: Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was 75.
The acclaimed actor was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, during the early morning hours and was taken to Manipal Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Medical personnel attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately 45 minutes, but their efforts were unsuccessful. His death was recorded at around 5:20 a.m.
Hospital officials confirmed that Patekar had suffered a cardiac arrest. A medico-legal procedure was initiated, with a post-mortem examination expected to establish further details surrounding his death.
His son, Malhar Patekar, also confirmed the news, bringing an end to a remarkable career that spanned nearly five decades.
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra in 1951, the actor began his artistic journey in theatre before entering the film industry with Gaman in 1978.
He gained widespread recognition for his intense performances, distinctive dialogue delivery and ability to portray complex characters across Hindi and Marathi cinema.
Patekar delivered memorable performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan and Natsamrat.
His portrayal of Uday Shetty in the comedy Welcome also introduced his versatility to a younger generation of cinema audiences.
Beyond acting, Patekar explored filmmaking and directed the 1991 film Prahaar, further establishing his presence in the Indian film industry.
Throughout his career, he received three National Film Awards and several other honours recognising his contribution to cinema.
In 2013, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.
His death prompted tributes from actors, filmmakers, political figures and fans who remembered his powerful performances and distinctive contribution to Indian cinema.
Patekar is survived by his son, Malhar, and his estranged wife.
His passing marks the loss of one of the most recognisable performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema, whose work influenced audiences across generations.
