Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States is considering freezing overseas pension fund accounts linked to the Iranian government, as part of efforts to intensify economic pressure on Tehran.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a television interview that Washington intends to maintain and potentially expand economic measures against Iran beyond existing restrictions.
According to Bessent, Donald Trump has directed officials to increase pressure on Iran, signalling a tougher stance amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
He added that the United States is also preparing to impose secondary sanctions on industries and financial institutions involved in the purchase and sale of Iranian oil. Such measures could target foreign companies and banks dealing with Iran’s energy sector.
The potential move to freeze pension-related assets abroad underscores Washington’s strategy to further tighten financial restrictions on Iran, as part of broader efforts to curb its economic activity and influence.
