(Web Desk) – Reports from US media outlets claim that the United States is reviewing new military contingency plans aimed at limiting Iran’s military capabilities in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
According to CNN, citing unnamed sources, the Pentagon is currently evaluating multiple operational options in response to what it describes as Iran’s increasing regional military activity. The plans are said to focus on strategic areas including the Strait of Hormuz, the southern Arabian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that one of the proposed scenarios includes targeting Iranian military assets positioned near key maritime routes. These assets are believed to support Iran’s ability to maintain influence over one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints.
The report further states that possible targets under consideration may include fast-attack vessels linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as ships allegedly capable of laying naval mines.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where maritime security and energy supply routes remain a major global concern. Neither the US Department of Defense nor Iranian officials have publicly confirmed the reported plans.
